Learn How to
Brew a Belgian Beer

Go beyond tasting and step into the brewer’s boots for a day. Our hands-on brewing course combines traditional Belgian techniques with expert guidance, giving you the complete experience of creating exceptional beer from grain to glass.

What You’ll Experience

This isn’t just a demonstration – it’s a complete immersion into the art of Belgian brewing. Your day begins with rolling up your sleeves and milling the grain, and remains hands-on at every stage of the brewing process, right through to starting the fermentation on a commercial batch of our flagship Westport Blond beer.

Throughout the day, you’ll taste not only our complete range of Belgian-style beers but also other beers specially selected to demonstrate beer styles and individual flavour components, helping you understand how different ingredients and techniques create distinct characteristics.

Between brewing activities, you’ll enjoy a hot and hearty 3 course lunch, prepared by professional cooks, featuring dishes made using Mescan and other local ingredients, which showcase the same commitment to quality and local sourcing that drives our brewing.

By day’s end, you’ll have completed a comprehensive brewery tour and, we hope, understand our philosophy and methods. You’ll go away with a full set of course notes covering everything from technical brewing information to equipment sourcing, plus ongoing email support for your brewing journey. Most importantly, you’ll return after a few months to collect a 12-bottle case of the actual beer you helped create – a tangible reminder of your brewing achievement.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need any brewing experience?

Not at all! Our course is designed for complete beginners through to those with some home brewing experience. We’ll guide you through every step and explain the science behind the processes.

What if I can't attend the whole day?

The course is designed as a complete experience, so we ask that participants commit to the full day to get the most value and not disrupt the group learning experience.

When can I collect my bottles?

The beer you help brew will be ready for collection approximately 3 to 4 months after the course date. We’ll contact you when it’s ready and arrange a convenient collection time.

Can I bring someone who's not participating?

Due to insurance and space limitations, only registered participants can attend the brewing course. However, they’re welcome to book a separate brewery tour to see our facilities.

What should I wear?

Wear comfortable, practical clothing that you don’t mind getting a little wet or flour-dusty. Closed-toe shoes and long trousers are essential for safety. We spend a good deal of time out in the fresh air, so dress for the weather. Layers and a change of dry clothes are recommended.

Do you accommodate dietary restrictions?

Absolutely! Please let us know about any dietary requirements when booking and we’ll ensure your lunch and any tastings are suitable. We have a range of vegan-friendly beers.

Is lunch included in the price?

Yes, a full hot 3 course lunch is included featuring locally sourced ingredients wherever possible, to showcase the same quality commitment that drives our brewing.

Can I purchase additional course materials?

Your comprehensive course notes are included, but we’re happy to recommend additional brewing resources and can provide guidance on equipment suppliers for your home brewing journey.
