the Brewery

Your journey to Mescan Brewery places you at the heart of one of Ireland’s most spectacular regions, where dramatic landscapes, rich history, and authentic Irish culture converge. County Mayo offers everything from spiritual pilgrimages and pristine beaches to charming heritage towns and scenic trails that showcase the very best of the Wild Atlantic Way.

Each destination tells its own story while contributing to the tapestry of experiences that make this corner of Ireland truly unforgettable. Whether you’re seeking adventure, tranquility, culture, or simply breathtaking views, Mayo’s treasures are waiting just beyond our brewery doors.

Croagh Patrick

Ireland’s Holy Mountain

Just minutes from our brewery stands Ireland’s most sacred mountain, where Saint Patrick is said to have fasted for 40 days in 441 AD. This iconic 764-meter peak offers one of Ireland’s most rewarding climbs, with breathtaking 360-degree views over Clew Bay’s scattered islands and the rugged Mayo coastline. Whether you tackle the challenging pilgrimage route to the summit or simply enjoy the stunning views from the foothills, Croagh Patrick provides a spiritual and scenic experience that perfectly complements your visit to our brewery. The mountain’s dramatic silhouette forms the backdrop to our brewing, reminding us daily of the ancient traditions and natural forces that shape this special corner of Ireland.

Achill Island

Where Europe Meets the Atlantic

Ireland’s largest offshore island awaits just an hour’s drive from Mescan, connected to the mainland by the scenic Michael Davitt Bridge. Achill boasts some of the highest sea cliffs in Europe and beaches that regularly feature in “world’s best” lists, including the stunning Keem Bay. From the wild beauty of the Atlantic Drive to the fascinating Deserted Village that tells the story of Ireland’s past, Achill offers dramatic landscapes, Blue Flag beaches, and outdoor adventures that showcase the untamed spirit of the Wild Atlantic Way. Recently featured in the acclaimed film “The Banshees of Inisherin,” this island destination provides the perfect day trip to experience the raw, authentic Ireland that inspired our brewing philosophy.

Westport House
& Gardens

Georgian Grandeur

Known as “Ireland’s Most Beautiful Home,” Westport House stands as one of the few privately-owned historic houses left in Ireland. This magnificent 18th-century estate offers 30 ornate rooms, six permanent exhibitions, and stunning parkland settings that transport visitors to a bygone era of Irish aristocracy. The house combines historical significance with family-friendly attractions, including adventure activities and beautiful gardens perfect for a leisurely stroll. Located just 10 minutes from our brewery in the charming Heritage Town of Westport, this attraction provides the ideal cultural complement to your craft beer experience, showing how tradition and elegance have long been valued in this corner of Mayo.

The Great
Western Greenway

Ireland’s Longest Off-Road Trail

Ireland’s longest off-road cycling and walking trail stretches 42km from Westport to Achill Island, following the route of the old Midlands Great Western Railway that closed in 1937. This award-winning trail offers a car-free journey through some of Mayo’s most spectacular countryside, passing through Newport and Mulranny with stunning views of Clew Bay and the surrounding mountains. Whether you cycle the full route or tackle just a section, the Greenway provides a unique perspective on the landscape that surrounds our brewery. The gentle gradients and breathtaking scenery make it accessible to all fitness levels, while the route’s historical significance adds depth to your exploration of Mayo’s rich heritage.

Clew Bay

A Tapestry of Islands and History

One of the most beautiful bays on Ireland’s west coast, Clew Bay is dominated by mountains and filled with small islands called drumlins, created when glaciers from the last ice age melted and retreated 10,000 years ago. This stunning maritime landscape, dotted with hundreds of islands, offers endless opportunities for exploration, from island-hopping adventures to scenic coastal drives. The bay is steeped in history as the domain of the legendary Pirate Queen Grace O’Malley, whose story adds intrigue to every view. From our brewery’s vantage point, you can see across this magnificent bay toward the Atlantic, understanding why this seascape has inspired storytellers, artists, and brewers for generations. The ever-changing light and weather patterns across Clew Bay mirror the complexity and depth we strive for in our Belgian-style beers.
